Is there any doubt that Tiger is on his way to becoming the greatest golfer of all time? I don’t pretend to be a golf guru, but this guy is unbelievable. Five straight tournament victories. 12 majors, second only to Jack. More wins on the PGA tour than any other active golfer. And oh yeah, did I mention he’s the highest paid athlete in the world? Watching Tiger on Sunday is appointment television. He’s the only reason I even remotely follow golf.
Check out this great ESPN piece on Ten Years of Tiger.
Someday, I’ll be able to tell my kids and grandkids that I saw the greatest basketball player (Jordan), baseball player (Bonds, or maybe A-Rod) and golfer in their primes. Pretty cool.
The only thing I don’t like about Tiger is that he doesn’t think all the tournaments are “Tiger” worthy. Ever since he got married about a year or so ago, he’s kinda tapered off a bit.Having said that, he’s an amazing player to watch. As a somewhat beginner golfer, its great to watch him and his form to learn from him.By the way, do you golf? If you do, you can come over and we can go play sometime. Even if its just nine holes.
I’ve never golfed. I hit lefty and in the last year or so, a good friend gave me an old set of left-handed clubs but I’ve yet to try them out. I’m liable to injure somebody with my Happy-Gilmore-esque hacking, but I’d love to give it a shot.
Tiger is absolutely unbelievable. Some are turned off by his on the course cursing and what not, but I can’t help but appreciate that intensity. His focus and determination, and sheer ability separate him from the pack, and it appears that Jack’s records are all but broken…it’s just a matter of time. With that said…I’m absolutely horrible. Some are turned off by the fact that I looked cursed on the course, and others can’t help but despise my lack of focus and determination and the what not. The only thing I’m likely to break playing gold is a club, and that I’ve already done, my friends!
Love him or hate him, Tiger is unbelievable. What is just as amazing is how he causes his competition to crumble in his shadow when he leads a major going into round 4. Most of his major championship victories have come without a real challenge on Sunday. Chris DiMarco is the only player that has really stood up to him in a major in the last few years, but he still could not get over the hump and beat him. There are a lot of great golfers out there who would have multiple major championships if they did not have the misfortune of playing in the era of Tiger. The Jordan comparison is right on. I never really thought Jordan would miss a shot with the game on the line, and Tiger doesn’t give up leads when the chips are down.I’d love to see a little more variety in winners and someone challenge Tiger and beat him, but I don’t see it happening until he is out of his prime.Good luck with taking up golf. Sometimes going from a baseball/softball swing to a golf swing is challenging.
Dad’s lefties are in our attic – saved for posterity, or some yet to be discovered Bybee pro golfer!
Hey man, come on over one day and we’ll hit some balls and play 9 holes. Once you play once, you’ll be hooked.
Joshua and I could both use Dad’s clubs I guess. Maybe I could get one and duck tape it to his hand.
