An Update

Our city is still reeling from yesterday’s horrible tragedy. 4 students have now passed away as a result of yesterday’s bus wreck. The bus driver and 14 students remain hospitalized at this hour. 4 of those students are listed in critical condition.

Our minister, Gary Bradley, pulled us in this morning to debrief us about his role in yesterday’s events. When Gary first heard the news, he immediately went down to the hospital. By the time he arrived, hospital officials were sending family members to the cafeteria. For the next few hours, Gary and many other ministers and counselors tried to bring comfort and reassurance to these frantic families. Gary even had the unenviable task of informing a family that their daughter had passed away. I’m thankful for people like Gary who are quick to act in times of crisis.

Events like this are difficult to process. There’s just no way to understand something so senseless. We pray for the families and friends of the deceased. We pray for those still in critical condition. May God bless them through these dark days.

And yet, I’m also reminded of God’s providence in all this. More students could’ve easily lost their lives yesterday. If you’ve seen the pictures of the bus, you know it could’ve been much, much worse. Thankfully, the paramedics and the police were on the scene moments after the crash. The hospital is only a few minutes from the accident site. Who knows what might’ve happened if this crash had occured in another part of the county? Praise God for these men and women who devote their lives to saving others. We are truly indebted to them.

Continue to pray for us here in Huntsville.

I think that we are all still so shocked as to what happened yesterday. I pray for the families of the girls who lost their lives and for the students/driver who are still in the hospital.

All I can say is AMEN to your comment. It is so hard to believe and so odd. Hug your kids and family even harder and pray for everyone. Even the emergency workers will probably have a hard time later when they start processing what they saw and did. Have a great holiday.

Sorry to hear about that. Gary Bradley and Gary Bradley Jr. are godly men and glad they are around in times like that. Take care

I was so shocked to hear about this as well, but I am so thankful that the community support has been so great in this time of need…One thing though that really angers me is the plans of Westboro Baptist “Church” to picket the funerals of these innocent kids that were killed, saying: “God killed these kids because their parents weren’t raising them right”. I was furious whenever I found out about it on the news…but then I began to think…A very diverse group of people were interviewed on the news last night, ranging from a motorcycle corp who pledged their services to stand between the picketers and the families, and then “thugs” who were friends of the victims, pledging to do “whatever thugs do” if the picketers got too close (I may or may not agree with this). But how great is our God that he can bring 2 groups so diverse as an all white motorcycle corp driving Harleys and wearing leather and a group of all black teenage “thugs” wearing Girbauld and Phat Pharm together. Praise God that we live in a community that knows the importance of actual Community.
