T-minus 24 days

Well, the date has been set. On June 11th at 8:30am, Bybee baby #3 will make his debut! That gives us 24 days to come up with a name!!!

Question: do any of you go by your middle name? If so, do you hate your parents for that? I’ve known a couple of people who went by their middle names and they tell me they hate it. Teachers always calling their first name, mail always coming addressed wrong, having to always say, “So and so is my middle name.” Personally, I can’t see how this would be so awful, but then again, Jason is my first name, so I don’t know. Any insight you have would be helpful.

24 days to go!!!

Well you know Scott’s first name is Leslie, right? Surprising as this may sound, he’s got all kinds of opinions on the matter.

Well, it’s been a problem for lots of folks I work with @ NASA. Everyone is badged and put into the system, using their first name. Result: no one can find anyone! It’s mass confusion. I had always heard of these perils so I made sure I gave my kids’ the name I wanted them to be called as their first name. It really can make a difference.

Jason,It may sound silly, but as a Kindergarten teacher that drove me crazy!!! I would get all of my kids names on EVERYTHING (tables, folders, bulletin boards, hooks for backpacks, etc.) before the kids came and then find out that tons of them went by their middle names or a different name than their 1st name. That was just something that frustrated me as a teacher. I guess you shouldn’t worry about making the teachers happy, though. 🙂 I know lots of people that go by middle names and I don’t think they’re scarred from it. Good luck with the naming. We’re getting excited to meet the baby!

Everyone on my side of the family and everyone on Kents side go by their middle name. It causes a lot of problems. I was the only one that goes by my first name. It is a pain in a lot of ways but I say go with your heart. I was adament about naming our girls to be called by their first name. Well, I really wanted May’s name to be Laura May but did not want to call her by her middle name. So we reversed it, I kind of regret it because the other way around sounds much better. So I say make up your own mind and do what you think is best. The other funny thing we did was spell May. I really wanted it to be Mae but I figured no one would get it right so I did the May. Everybody spells it Mae. So there you have it. DO WHAT YOU WANT!

I have no clue. Not only do I go by my first name, but I am not a parent so I have never named anyone.. I will say that in 4th and 5th grade I went through a phase where I desperately wanted to go by my middle name, Kristine. But going by Jenna proved to be easier. haha… yeah.. I know that doesn’t help.Basically I wanted to comment to let you know that I am back in the blog scene. It’s been a while… 🙂

Tracy, I knew Scott was Leslie. I’m waiting for him to weigh in here. Belinda, now that you mention it, most of the NASA folk I know go by their middle name. If we follow suit, you think Junior’s got a shot to be an astronaut?Anna, Sunny has a similar opinion based on her teaching experience. There’s also a whole host of names that are off limits for her because of her association with them through teaching!Laura, for my first year or two here, I thought May’s name was spelled “Mae”. I actually saw it printed like that a few times. Jenna, welcome back! I never wanted to go by my middle name, but then again, my middle name is “Al”. I think we have a name chosen now. But it changes every day at this point!
