American Idol: Top 12

Here are my thoughts on Tuesday’s Top Twelve show:

First of all, I loved the Lennon / McCartney theme. Gonna be tough to top that one in weeks to come. We can all hold our collective breath in hopes of a Fergie / will.i.am tribute.

Best performance of the night: Chekezie. I loved the bluegrass beginning evolving into a rockin’ vibe with his amazing energy. Who knew he had that in him? You go, dawg.

Performance I would download right now: David Cook’s “Elanor Rigby”. That was awesome. (By the way, there’s still no chance I’m actually going to download this, no matter how many promotional emails you send me, iTunes. I’m just saying.)

The fingernails-on-chalkboard performance of the night: Kristy Lee Cook’s hideous “Eight Days A Week”. Yikes. Seriously. Simon’s comment (“That was like Dolly Parton on helium.”) was spot on.

The “I don’t get it” performance of the night: Brooke White’s “Let It Be”. I just don’t see the appeal here. The voice is thin and weak. Take out the piano playing and you’ve got a C+ performance at best. And crying at the end of the song doesn’t work on me. I view it as manipulative.

Bottom three prediction: Although I really wish Brooke would be here, I think she’s too likable. So I’m thinking David Hernandez, Kristi Lee Cook, and Syesha will be the bottom three, with David going home.

By the way, was it just me, or did Seacrest seem drunk last night? I usually say that about Paula, but Ryan seemed especially hyped.

And how does David Archuleta, this season’s anointed frontrunner, forget the lyrics to “We Can Work It Out”? Where’s Maurice Cheeks when you need him?

Your thoughts?

Oh my! I’ve never seen that performance of the National Anthem. I cannot imagine the horror!!!I was really impressed with last night’s performances. I am really excited to see how it will all play out in the finals. My thoughts…You could really tell who was there to win last night. My bottom three would have to be David Hernandez, Kristi Lee Cook and either Syesha or Ramiele. I know, I know, that is four. I think that it is a toss up of either Hernandez or Cook going home tonight. I think that Syesha did not bring her best, but how many “powerhouse” performances can we get. After a while, they all start to sound the same. To me, that’s not the measure of a “real” singer. Ramiele looked defeated from the moment she opened her mouth. Kristi Lee was absolutely horrible and Hernandez just doesn’t compare to the other guys. I think that tonight’s vote will really decide if this is a “talent competition or a popularity contest”. I think that America has been right on with their other “boots”.

Last night’s episode was strong, in my opinion. I think Kristi Lee will carry enough “country” votes to last another week. And I’m with you…I’m pleasantly surprised with the way America has been voting so far. But let’s not get too carried away. Remember, these are the same people who voted Sanjaya through week after week last year.

Brooke was great. Sincerity and genuineness speak volumes. It’s the 21st century, dude. Time to sign on to the ladies singing the songs.

I’m sincere and genuine. But I ain’t winning American Idol. And I’m coming around to some female artists. Slowly.

Haven’t watched last night’s episode yet…sorry can’t comment. But From what you wrote it sounds like a doozy. I’ll let you know how I feel tomorrow. We’ll watch all of that plus the results show tonight after church.

Jason, my picks for bottom 3 were same as yours, and my top pick to go home went packing tonight. I didn’t think Brooke’s performance was as good has her reviews, but she reamins likeable. The only reason little Dolly didn’t go home tonight is becuase of her looks. I bet Archie will win because all the teenage girls adore him.

We had a track meet last night so we didn’t get to see that particular episode. We’re looking forward to seeing more though b/c we never saw any of the girls perform; we don’t feel like we know any of them.
