Well, I should’ve listened to my friends. We saw Indiana Jones Friday night and it was terrible. Aliens? Really??
But I saw The Happening last night with some friends and I thought it was a little better. Of course, considering how putrid Indy 4 was, that’s not saying much. Actually, I thought both movies suffered from lack-of-plot-itis. Throw in Mark Wahlberg’s wooden acting and plenty of gratuitous violence, and The Happening just doesn’t click. The best part about it for me was that, due to a movie listing typo in our local paper, my buddies and I were treated to a private showing of the film for free. So…it had that going for it.
All of which leads me to ask: what’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen? When I was in high school, I went with some friends to see Joe vs. the Volcano and we pretty much agreed it was the worst movie ever. But I went in with minimal expectation and that has to count for something. I had high expectations for the Matrix sequels, but they were both terrible. As for ruining an otherwise flawless series, The Godfather, Part III has to rank at the top of the list. I watched The Phantom Menace the other day with Joshua; I’d forgotten what an awful movie it is (Jar Jar Binks….ugh.) Thankfully, I never saw Ishtar, so I can’t speak from experience there.
Of course, there’s “so bad it’s good”, which is a different category altogether. Battlefield Earth takes the cake there.
sorry you didn’t like the movie last night….now I feel bad!
Worst movie…I suppose that technically I might say “Plan 9 From Outer Space”, but that was enjoyably terrible (or terribly enjoyable, perhaps). “Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot” was really bad, as was “Dr. Otto & The Riddle Of The Gloom Beam” from 1985 (the only movie I’ve ever walked out on).Re: “The Happening”- I cannot watch horror movies (or any movie with excessive violence) anymore, although I gloried in watching the most offensive trash I could find as a teenager (prior to conversion at 19).I actually like “Joe Vs. The Volcano” a lot.Worst sequels? Don’t forget “Superman III”.
Indy 4 has to be one of the worst.I could babble on about all the bad scenes and I can only think of one scene that was decent. It was by far the worst movie I have ever seen that there had been great anticipation for, although Star Wars I and II were pretty badJeff K
Amy, Don’t feel bad! I thought it was entertaining and like I said, at least I didn’t have to pay for it!
Allen,I’ve never seen any of the first three films you mentioned. As for “The Happening”, the violence was just gratuitous. I don’t blame you for not wanting to see it. I don’t remember anything about “Joe Vs”, other than the fact that we all hated it. What about Superman IV? Woof.
Jeff,Worst scene of Indy 4: Shia LeBouf (or whatever his name is) swinging through the jungle Tarzan style. I’m not sure, but I think I saw Fonzie jumping the shark in the background.
You didn’t think the series rebounded with “Superman IV”? OK, maybe not.
glad it was free for you…i completely forget about the graphic stuff cause i close my eyes as soon as i think something like that is fixing to happen then johnny tells me when i can look again. so for me, it was blood free!
Allen, I hated Superman IV. Did you see the series restart a couple years ago? It was OK, but a bit overblown. I know, I’m pretty hard on movies, I guess.Amy, that’s exactly what Sunny does, too! That is, when I can even get her to see something even remotely “scary”.
Another bad movie…1989’s “No Holds Barred”, featuring Hulk Hogan. And I was joking about “Superman IV”.
I’m a bit behind on my blog reading, but couldn’t pass on this one. And I agree that Indy was a HUGE disappointment. I guess I’m holding out hope that The Dark Knight will be good. Otherwise, this summer’s going to be a disaster movie-wise.I would be hard put to think of a worse movie than “Joe Versus The Volcano”. Other stinkers:- Rocky IV (“If he dies, he dies”)- Barbarella- Any Schwarzenegger “comedy”
