Sunny and I celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary this August. We’ve been tinkering with the idea of a trip to Boston to celebrate. Obviously, I’d want to go to Fenway and catch a Red Sox game. But I’m wondering what else there is to do in Boston. I’m sure there are all kinds of nationally historic landmarks to see and whatnot. Just wondering if any intrepid readers have ever been to Boston. Help me out here.

Ooo!! I love that area!! Concord is not far from Boston. I stayed at the Colonial Inn, built in 1716, when I went on a literary tour in May '06. Concord is home of Emerson, Thoreau (yes, Waldon Pond is beautiful), & Louisa May Alcott– their homes are beautiful! Longfellow's house is in Boston (I think) and Salem is not far either. The downtown area in Concord is SO cute– an amazing antique bookstore and the coolest library I have ever been in, plus a place called Helen's was our favorite eatery. So basically. Yes. I have been. I loved it. I have pictures that I can share with you.
Hey Jason, I got to go to Boston for a day while I was up there on a spring break campaign a couple years ago. It’s a great city with a TON of stuff to do. We only had one day, so we sort of did a whirlwind tour, which was definitely not enough. There’s all kinds of American-history related stuff there like the Old North Church and the USS Constitution. You can go down the Revolutionary Trail, and go up Bunker Hill. Then we headed up to check out Harvard, and MIT is there too. I have a thing for looking at college campuses for some reason. We didn’t get a chance to check out the local culture and neighborhoods and stuff, but I think that would be fun too. Martha’s Vineyard is also close. Of course, nothing tops Fenway, but there’s a ton to do there, and most of it is connected to the subway there, so it is easy to get around, and the people were surprisingly friendly and helpful.

But even if you want to center it around baseball, take a quick trip to Cambridge and tour Harvard/MIT (also steeped in history) and if you’re pressed for time you can do the pick up/drop off tour bus that make the historical circuit and hits all the biggies.Also, ask Ed Fowler. He goes there often for work, and chances are he knows a few off-the-beaten-path sites, restaurants or coffee shops that will be absolutely perfect.And yes, I am up at 3:30 AM.
Is there anything else in Boston, but Fenway and the Red Sox? I think not! SO jealous….
Well, I’ve never been, but I’ve heard that you can start over, and if you’re sick of the weather here, some snow might be nice up there. No one will know your name and you can star a new life. That’s just what I hear though ; )Ashleigh
I’ve also heard that it’s more than a feeling when I hear that old song they used to play. I begin dreaming till I see Mary Anne walk away.I’ve been singing Augustana all morning long. And Mike, get some sleep, brother.
How long will you be there? There is SO much to do! Tour the Freedom Trail, check out the great art museums, shop on Newbury Street, go to top of John Hancock bldg., eat Italian in the North End and watch the old men play bocce ball, see a play in the theater district, ride the T, check out Harvard, take a ghost tour – hokey but fun, be sure to get some goodies from Mike’s Pastry in the North End, sooo many great places to eat…., ask Dylan for more ideas! I’ll ask Laura for more ideas before you go. The suggestions from Jenna sound great – I never got a chance to do that, but would love to! Of course, you can’t top a Red Sox game!
