A Mid-Summer Night’s Prayer

We’re officially at the midway point of our summer youth ministry calendar. We just came off a week of camp at Lipscomb; earlier in the summer, I led a group to Nashville for Workcamp. We’ve also had many in-town events, Bible studies and worship times, all of which have been great.

It’s usually at this point in the summer that I begin to feel the cumulative effect of our activity. I feel tired & worn down. It’s a challenge to find time for my own spiritual nourishment. I desperately need to pause and spend some time in the Word. My prayer time needs recussitating. Like Elijah, I need to stop long enough to hear the gentle whisper of the Lord’s voice.

Lord, I pray my activity would not drown out Your voice. Calm me, still me, speak to me as only You can.

Tomorrow: I Am Jacob

Hang in there, man. To paraphrase Tony Campolo “It’s June but August is coming.”

Thanks, man. I know it’s a crazy time for everybody, but I could use a sabbatical right now. Heck, I’d settle for a day away from everything just to get some rest. I guess I’ll sleep in August. That’d be a great name for a YM book.

Ironically, summer’s are pretty calm for me ministerrally. People are traveling, so apart from a picnic or some such, there isn’t much event wise. That’s what you YM’s are from. No, all of my stress is self-induced.By the way, what do you think of Nathanson?

Love him. He kinda reminds me of McDermott. Thanks for the recommendation. Have you ever heard Keane? I’m loving their new album. Very Coldplay-esque.

Get his live album. It just came out and is phenomenal. Itunes has a couple of exclusive tracks if you buy the whole thing. Of course you could sign up for emusic from the link I sent you yesterday and get 25 free songs. Oh, and I would get 50 free tunes for referring you. But no pressure.I love Keane but I like their first album much better. There is a coldplay connection. The lead singer went to school with Chris Martin and almost joined Coldplay. He stuck with Keane instead.

Yeah, I read about the Coldplay / Keane connection in EW.I didn’t get the email from you. I’ve tried emusic before. Will be glad to sign up again, if only to give you the 50 free songs. Send me the link.
